This was most evident in the PM’s pioneering work in constitutionally reserving positions for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). As we go to press, there are well over 14 lakh women elected to our PRIs. Indeed, there are more elected women in India alone than in the rest of the world put together. The details are in Chapter 5 of this volume. I regard this as India’s greatest achievement since the proclamation of the Constitution. Could this achievement possibly be the handiwork of a male chauvinist?
